This has been a very unusual year for all of us. As a recent post we read says “can we delete and re-boot 2020?”. Many of us sure feel that way! As the City of Tombstone and the merchants gradually re-open and things start to normalize, we want you to know that Tombstone Small Animal Shelter is here. We are only open by appointment, with no off-site adoptions. Thanks to all of you that call when you see a pet you would like to make part of your family. Or to drop off donations. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate through these unusual times.
Our supporters have been so generous with donations both monetary and with supplies and we just can’t thank you enough. Momma Amber and her 7 pups were a huge endeavor for us. Sure not something we are used to. Amber is adopted and we have a long list of those interested pre-adopting the pups. We still have two adult dogs that are in need of a forever home. Tori who has been with us since November and Airport in January. Airport hasn’t been listed a lot because he has been a work in progress. He is finally out in a play yard and hopefully soon going on walks. He is quite shy and needs a lot of love, patience and caring. Tori who loves people just needs to be given a chance to show how wonderful she is.
Now for our next challenge cats/kittens… We just brought in a mother and 4 kittens. They will be available for pre-adoption after their vet appointment. They are at the shelter. In foster we have 5 adult cats – 1 a senior, 2 who are quite shy and will need a lot of socializing and 7 kittens all about 1 month old. This is another big challenge for us. They will not be available for pre-adopt for a while and will gradually come to the shelter as space permits and be available for adoption.
TSAS is a no-kill shelter. No-kill is defined as saving every dog and cat in a shelter who can be saved. It means healing the animals who can be healed, treating behaviors that can be treated, and prioritizing safety and a high quality of life for both pets and people in our communities. That is what we do. Our jurisdiction (priority) is the greater Tombstone area, but if space allows we have helped Cochise County Animal Control and other shelters that may be over crowded. This is on hold at this time. We are able to do this because of the donations we receive from our supporters. And from the generosity and support of the Tombstone Merchants, Service groups and the visitors/guests that some to our town.
If you have any questions regarding the shelter or our practices please call and ask. 520-457-2545. All our statics are posted on shelteranimalscount.org. We believe in total transparency. We achieved the gold seal of transparency on guidestar.org for the last three years.
Thank you for your continued support.
