His name is Silas. He was born Aug 30, 2010. His first owner had him until June of 2012 when he surrendered him to the shelter because he kept digging out and he couldn’t contain him. His next owner lived near the shelter really wanted Silas. True to form Silas dug out and was returned at least once. The final time he was with his girlfriend Duchess, a 4 year old St. Bernard Mix. You can just imagine these two big dogs running and barking on the outside perimeter of the shelter with all the other dogs inside. What chaos that must have been! This was December 2012.This owner also decided not to fix the fence to contain the dogs and they were surrendered to the shelter. Duchess was adopted pretty quickly to a local family Silas soon after. The shelter volunteers that were there at the time all remember Silas and Duchess as a sweet pair of gentle giant dogs.
Silas is a bull mastiff and like Duchess a real sweetheart. Soon after, a man from San Diego called and inquired about adopting Silas. He had read about him on one of the many sites we post dogs on for adoption. I remember talking to our Volunteer and being so impressed that this guy would drive straight over and pick him up. I just kept thinking “they don’t have bull mastiff’s in Southern California”? Jason has had other large rescue dogs so was familiar with the breed etc. Soon after adopting him Silas jumped out an open window, but that issue was soon corrected and he didn’t get the opportunity to do it again Recently we received these three pictures of Silas playing in the surf off San Diego. He is happy and healthy and also goes to play with other large dogs on the family ranch. No digging out of enclosed areas! Once again Love triumphs all!!
